11.11 and 12.12 are the biggest online sale days of the year in the Philippines, and they're a good time to buy a handheld if you go in with a plan. Decide which games you want to play before sale day, because that decides the chip you need and narrows your choice to two or three models. Buy from an official store with local warranty. Compare the sale price with the usual price, not with the crossed-out "original" price. And if the handheld is a Christmas gift, order during 11.11 or early in December rather than waiting until the week before Christmas. This guide covers how to choose, which models fit each budget, and how to avoid the most common sale-day mistakes.
Step 1: Decide what you want to play
The games you want decide the hardware tier, and the tier decides the budget. Settle this before the sale starts so you aren't choosing under countdown pressure.
| You want to play… | You need | Usual starting price |
|---|---|---|
| NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBA, PS1 | A budget Linux handheld | From ₱2,499 |
| Plus better N64, Dreamcast and PSP | An H700 or RK3566 handheld, or entry Android | From ₱3,999 |
| PS2 and GameCube | Snapdragon 865 or 8 Gen 2 Android | From ₱12,999 |
| DS and 3DS on two screens | A dual-screen handheld | From ₱7,299 |
| PC games from Steam | A Windows handheld PC | From ₱94,990 |
These are usual base prices, before any sale discounts.
Step 2: Shortlist two or three models
Here are our in-stock picks by budget. Note their usual prices now so you can judge sale-day deals properly.
Under ₱5,000
- R36S (from ₱2,499): the best-value first handheld, with two sticks and a 3.5" screen.
- ANBERNIC RG40XX H (from ₱3,999): a faster chip, a 4" screen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
- TrimUI Brick Pro (from ₱4,599): the sharpest screen and longest battery in this range.
More options are in our best handhelds under ₱5,000 guide.
₱5,000 to ₱15,000
- Mangmi Air X (from ₱7,799): a 5.5" Full HD Android handheld with Hall effect sticks.
- ANBERNIC RG DS (from ₱7,299): two 4" screens for Nintendo DS games.
- ANBERNIC RG556 (from ₱11,999): a 5.48" AMOLED with 8GB of RAM.
- Mangmi Air Y Pro (from ₱12,999): the most affordable PS2-capable handheld we sell.
₱15,000 and up
- Retroid Pocket 6 (from ₱17,990): Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with a 120Hz AMOLED, our best-value premium pick.
- Retroid Pocket Nova (from ₱17,990): the same chip with a compact 4:3 AMOLED.
- AYN Thor (from ₱24,990): the best dual-screen handheld for DS and 3DS.
- AYN Odin 3 (from ₱33,990): the most powerful Android handheld we sell.
Step 3: Spot real deals
- Compare with the usual price, not the crossed-out one. Some sellers raise the "original" price before a sale so the discount looks bigger. Note the regular price a week or two before.
- Check the exact model and chip. Popular budget handhelds attract clones. An "R36S" far cheaper than everyone else may use a different board or screen. Make sure the listing names the chip, such as RK3326, H700 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
- Check the variant you're paying for. The headline price usually belongs to the base variant. More RAM, storage or extras cost more, so check what's in the cart before you pay.
- Read the voucher terms. Platform vouchers, store vouchers and shipping vouchers often have minimum spends and time limits. Work out the final price at checkout.
- Look at the seller, not just the price. A few hundred pesos saved isn't worth it if the seller can't help when something goes wrong.
Step 4: Buy from an official store with local warranty
Handhelds are small electronics, and a small share arrive with problems such as a dead pixel or a drifting stick. With a local warranty, you message the store and it's sorted in the Philippines. With an overseas seller, you may have to ship it back at your own cost and wait weeks. Our local store vs importing guide covers this in more detail.
You can buy GameCove handhelds on our website and from our official Shopee and Lazada stores. Follow our official stores to see sale-day prices and vouchers as they go live.
Step 5: Time it for Christmas
Couriers get very busy from 11.11 through December, and deliveries slow down close to Christmas. If the handheld is a gift:
- 11.11 gives you the most breathing room before Christmas.
- 12.12 still works for most of the country, but expect longer delivery times than usual.
- If you need it by a specific date, message us before ordering and we'll tell you what's realistic.

Step 6: Check it when it arrives
- Record an unboxing video showing the sealed package being opened. Marketplaces often ask for this if there's a problem.
- Charge it fully, then test every button, both sticks, the screen and the sound.
- Report problems right away. Warranty and return windows have time limits.
- Protect it from day one with a case and a screen protector. See our handheld care guide for the Philippine climate.
Don't forget accessories
Sale days are a good time to add the small things you'll want anyway: a case, a 9H tempered glass screen protector (from ₱150 for many models) and a USB microSD card reader (₱100). Check that the accessory matches your exact model before checking out. Browse our accessories.
FAQ
Is 11.11 or 12.12 better for buying a handheld?
Both bring discounts and vouchers, so the better one is the one where your chosen model is at its lowest final price. If it's a Christmas gift, 11.11 leaves more time for delivery.
How do I know if a sale price is a real discount?
Compare it with the price a week or two before the sale, not with the crossed-out price on sale day. Check the final price at checkout after vouchers.
What is the best handheld to buy on sale?
It depends on your games and budget. The R36S is the best budget buy, the Retroid Pocket 6 is the best value premium handheld, and the AYN Thor is best for DS and 3DS.
Is it safe to buy a cheap handheld from an overseas seller?
It can be, but warranty claims are harder, delivery takes longer and clones are more common. A local official store is the safer choice, especially for gifts.
Should I buy the higher-RAM version on sale?
Only if you plan to play demanding systems such as Switch. For retro games up to PS2 and GameCube, the base version is enough.
